The Festival is a unique one-day event with over 50 free talks and workshops and over 60 stalls covering: Self-healing and Self-empowerment • Natural Parenting and Nature Cures • Healthy Vegan Organic Meals and Whole-foods • Permaculture and Environmentalism • Musical, Poetic and Artistic Expression • Simple and Non-consumerist Living • Creating Community and Networks • Celebration and Connection.

A Dialogue Society Straight Talk. Interviewee: Shami Chakrabarti, Director of Liberty.
Interviewer: Steve Richards, British TV Presenter and Chief Political Columnist for The Independent Newspaper.
This new series of programmes will probe urgent contemporary issues in an interview format. It is called Straight Talk for a reason: an expert will face direct, searching questions from a seasoned interviewer. Questions and answers together will help frame the issue and open it up for the audience to debate further.

Talk by Professor Abbas Edalat of the Campaign Against Sanctions and Military Intervention in Iran.
Followed by questions and discussion.

This is an opportunity to learn about different approaches to dialogue, drawing on the skills and experiences of two national projects.

Among other issues, the workshops will cover:
• The role of dialogue in building resilient communities.
• Improving the quality and depth of conversations.
• Disagreeing whilst maintaining good relationships.
• Sharing stories as a way of building bridges.

The work of Turkey’s national poet Nazim Hikmet brought to life by the unique Songlines Choir in London’s most atmospheric venue.

The Festival brings together on the 13th-15th July 2012, a host of events. Amongst others: The Climate change Minister, Gregory Barker discusses the environment with Caroline Lucas of the Green Party; Theodore Dalrymple, the arch-conservative of the Spectator, locks horns with Polly Toynbee of the Guardian over liberal attitudes to morality and the Welfare State; and Peter Hitchens will debate with Dr Axel Klein the ‘legalisation of drugs’.

A unique opportunity to chat with George Lakey.
George Lakey was first arrested for a civil rights sitin in the 1960s; he was most recently arrested on a climate change action in 2010. Over the last 50 years, he has worked with trade unions and poor people’s groups as well as peace activists and environmentalists.

UNA LunchBox talk to be given by Professor Rhys Jenkins. Professor Jenkins is an economist by training with interests in international development issues, particularly trade and foreign investment, and in industrialisation. His current research focuses on the impact of the growth of China on other developing countries. He has had a long term interest in the activities of transnational corporations in the South and this has included analysis of corporate social responsibility.

The talk is at 1pm and will last about 30 minutes followed by questions.

A meeting hosted by UNA Leamington Spa. Vijay Mehta, Chair of Uniting for Peace is giving a talk on India and its achievements especially on Millennium Development Goals.

Members of Birmingham UNA have invited author Vijay Mehta, Chair of Uniting for Peace, to give a talk on his book followed by a Q/A session till 9:00pm. The book, The Economics of Killing published by Pluto Press, describes how the Military Industrial Complex works, its links with the global financial crisis and “the role Western governments play in perpetuating conflict”.
