The decision taken 70 years ago to use untried technology to speed up the end of the war introduced Hiroshima and Nagasaki to the international lexicon. This conference will consider the contestation over knowledge about nuclear bombs and warfare, including the impact and roles of misinformation and secrecy, from the start of the Second World War until the present day. A reception will follow.

This year is the seventieth anniversary of the dropping of the first atomic bombs on two Japanese cities, Hiroshima (on 6th August) and Nagasaki (on 9th August).
