Welcome to a public event at London Catholic Worker with KATHY KELLY - American peace activist, pacifist and author, one of the founders of Voices in the Wilderness and co-coordinator of Voices for Creative Nonviolence. She travelled to Iraq twenty-six times, remaining in combat zones during both US-Iraq wars.

A free events with a panel of guest speakers. The panel will discuss developments in the peace movement such as nuclear disarmament, militarisation in society and non-military security.

The programme will run from 10.30am to 3.30pm and will include a Buddhist ceremony, multi-faith peace prayers, speakers on anti nuclear and non-violent actions, and an afternoon multi-cultural celebration. Lunch will be provided.

In 2016 the British government (whoever they might be) will decide whether to scrap the Trident nuclear weapons programme once and for all, or whether to waste £100 billion on the most dangerous weapons humankind has ever produced.

The Story of Local Conscientious Objectors in World War One. Research undertaken locally reveals experiences of Conscientious Objectors from Haringey. The consequences of the actions are presented by Jennifer Bell, of Hornsey Historical Society and Haringey WW1 Peace Forum, in light of how the law operated at the time and the reasons why men felt it was wrong to fight the war.

This workshop takes you through the campaigning essentials. If you want your campaign to succeed, it is essential for you to have a good strategy (‘if you fail to plan, you plan to fail’ as they say). A campaign strategy does not have to be a lengthy, complex document. In fact a good campaign strategy is often no more than a couple of sides of A4.

An ‘elevator pitch’ is a concise verbal description of your campaign, designed to inspire policymakers, journalists and other audiences to support your campaign. A good campaign elevator pitch should last no longer than 45 seconds (try doing it right now – it’s not easy is it?!).

If you want to lobby Government to introduce or change legislation it is essential for you to understand how Parliament works and key Parliamentary processes. This workshop will introduce you to many of the key mechanisms and access points that are available to campaigners to try to influence the Government through Parliamentary means.

This workshop is suitable for: Individuals who have no previous experience of making Freedom of Information requests. Anyone from a large or small charity or campaign group (even if you’re not a registered charity). 1.30pm – 5.00pm (Please arrive no later than 1.15pm for registration)

Whether you are a grassroots campaign or a large charity, getting grant funding for your campaign has a different set of challenges to getting other kinds of funding. This half day workshop will take you through what you need to do to make a compelling case for a grantmaking trust to fund your campaign. 1.30pm – 5.00pm (Please arrive no later than 1.15pm for registration)
