The Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) now under negotiation between the EU and the US is set to be the most significant trade liberalising agreement the world has ever seen. This treaty, and especially its proposals for investor-state dispute settlement, will empower corporations to override government laws protecting public health, environmental regulations and social policies where these interfere with corporate profiteering. Tax payers and citizens will once again be left dealing with the consequences and footing the bill.

Francisco Dominguez is Head of the Centre for Brazilian and Latin American Studies at Middlesex University and Secretary of the Venezuelan Solidarity Campaign.

International Peace Day - Peace Walk in Belfast
This will be a walk of approx. one mile, starting from Carlisle Circus at 3.30 pm and finishing at Belfast City Hall at 4.30pm
Peace Day will be marked by many activities including an Interfaith Pilgrimage Of Prayer For Peace. The walkers will be required to observe silence during the walk. No banners or placards will be carried. There will be no speeches.

Alice Wheeldon: a daughter of Derby to be proud of
This year Derby has honoured Alice Wheeldon with a Blue Plaque; recognising that an injustice was done to her and her family. Our Festival will celebrate Peace and Justice in 2013, recognising the courage of those who have fought for women’s rights and the bravery of those who took a stand against WW1. There will be a free lunch time concert and displays along with talks on MI5, the legacy of war, conscientious objection. It will be lively and enjoyable, so book your place now and tell your friends.
