Network for Peace

The 2014 EIFA Annual Lecture is being held in conjunction with ‘Gandhi Day’ and the U.N. International Day of Non-Violence. This year’s talk will be given by the historian and author Antony Copley who is a Gandhi Foundation Trustee and academic adviser. On the night, there will also discussion through skype with the Afghan Peace Volunteers.

After the AGM, at 7pm, there will be a chance to hear from two of the young women who represented MAW at the International Peace Conference in Sarajevo earlier this summer. Refreshments will be served after the AGM before their talk.

Douglas Newton will be discussing WW1 and his new book 'The Darkest Days: The Truth Behind Britain's Rush to War, 1914' @ the Bishopsgate Institute in London on 23rd September. The book is excellent and he's an excellent speaker (he ran a session at this year's Peace News Summer Camp). He'll be joined by Vron Ware and Joe Glenton in the discussion afterwards.

St Johns Gardens will be transformed to 1914 Merseyside with a series of performances, exhibitions and stalls that will demonstrate … what life was like at the time of the outbreak of the First World War. Encounter everything from Housing, Clothing, Transport, Entertainment, Public Health and Women’s
Suffrage …. It will also explore what the Call to Arms meant to thousands of local families …. Missing from the list is any mention of Conscientious Objectors so Merseyside CND are trying to run an information stall focussing on them.

Presented by Transition Town West Kirby and St. Bridget’s Church.
10am -4pm in two fields by the church and school. There will be two music stages, workshops, demonstrations and stalls.
