Network for Peace

The Pilgrimage from Scotland and down the east side of England aims to focus public attention on the Government proposals to spend £100 billion pounds renewing the Trident nuclear weapons system, while continuing to slash NHS, education and social welfare budgets. It will be organised in stages, and people will be invited to join in walking as many or few stages as they can manage.

Ten years after the biggest demonstrations in history in February 2003, this conference will discuss and plan opposition to continuing and further wars; to analyse continuing Western aggression and how to confront it. There have been 11 years of torture, rendition and arbitrary detention at Guantanamo Bay. To mark the 11th anniversary of this injustice, the London Guantanamo Campaign will hold a 'mystery tour' across London, recounting the journey of 11 prisoners and visiting the embassies involved in torture flights and extraordinary rendition, leading up to a candlelight vigil outside the US Embassy at 6pm.

Andrew Gilligan has had a long career in journalism, including a stint at BBC Radio 4 during which he was a central figure in the controversy over the Government’s report on weapons of mass destruction (WMD) in the lead up to the Iraq war.
Andrew is now London editor for the Sunday Telegraph. He writes, among other things, about London, Westminster and politics.

Woking Action for Peace has joined with other groups in Woking to hold a series of Debates in 2013 on issues of concern.
They will be held on the third Saturday of each month from January to June.

The first debate will be on 19th January 2013 when Bruce Kent will be asked "WAR: Is it justified? Does armed intervention work?" After 20 minutes the debate will be open to the floor.
