Remote Control – the Dangerous New Way of Fighting War
Drones (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles - UAVs) are the new face of warfare for the US and many of the world’s biggest defence spenders. Analysis on drone attacks in Pakistan has shown that for every militant leader killed, 10 civilians also have died.
The meeting will be led by our eminent speaker, Paul Rogers, Professor of Peace Studies at the University of Bradford, where he teaches courses on international and environmental security, arms control and political violence.

Down the Drones talk in South Somerset
Chris Cole from the Drone Campaign Network will explain how unmanned drones cause civilian casualties and make war more likely; he will show a short film, and will talk about the 'Ground the Drones' Week of Action from 6th to 13th October.

Speakers from different faiths on the subject of Inter Faith and Social Action with the theme being One World, Many Needs, Many Faiths, One Golden Rule. Displays of Social Action providers from across the travel to work area i.e. cross borders; some provide local services others in different parts of the world, e.g. Kashmir, Pakistan, Kenya, Congo, Gambia, Burundi, Albania, Chernobyl children.

Information stalls and displays provided by local campaigning organisations; exhibition about how people are adapting to change and how we can share ideas for our common future; International buffet; Interactive participatory discussion sharing ideas on how we can work together for a better world.

"Even the Rain" a film for One World Week
Organised by Portsmouth Film Society in conjunction with Portsmouth OWW. The action takes place in the context of the Bolivian Water Wars and raises issues about exploitation and ownership of the basic needs for human survival. There will be information stalls and Fairtrade refreshments from 7.30 and the film will be shown at 8pm.

How can we shape our lives to contribute to an equitable future for all?
This year looks back to the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 1992 with a conference Rio+20 in June which will review progress and assess what the world and each of us needs to do now if we want to hand on a planet worth living in to future generations. One World Week 2012 offers us an opportunity to review the findings of the conference and plan the actions we can take to contribute to an equitable, harmonious and enduring future.

SMK runs a series of one-day introductory level campaign workshops throughout the UK to equip people with the skills to bring about change at a local or national level, supported by the Tudor Trust.
