Network for Peace

The global capitalist crisis and new wave of resistance have put the question of radical political organisation and left unity, 'beyond the fragments', sharply into focus. This discussion will bring together those who share a concern for developing participatory forms of radical organisation.

An open forum with contributions from Preeti Paul (International Organization for a Participatory Society), Tom Walker (ex Socialist Worker journalist), James O'Nions (editor, Red Pepper magazine), Luke Cooper (Anticapitalist Initiative), and Laura Schwartz (Feminist Fightback).

This exhibition explores how artists with diverse practices and perspectives experienced the invasion and occupation of Iraq and how they responded to it by engaging with questions of space, place, landscape and territory. Bringing together artists from Iraq and Britain, it shows six works that give material form to the violence, anxiety and ruin of war but which also raise questions about resistance, survival and dreams of peace.

An event to celebrate the publication of ‘London Fictions’ from Five Leaves Publishing. ‘London Fictions’ is a new collection of essays about the representation of London in fiction, with each contributor concentrating on a particular work.

To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of writer and mystic Arthur Machen, Housmans are proud to welcome Iain Sinclair to discuss this enigmatic literary figure.

Iain will be considering Machen in the context of London, Poe's stalking of the ‘Man in the Crowd’, the Northwest Passage, De Quincey and the Labyrinth.

The Alliance of Radical Booksellers is proud to announce a new radical bookfair for London. The idea behind the fair is to create an event which showcases the depth and breadth of radical publishing and bookselling in the UK. The event will culminate with the announcement of the winner of the ARB’s book prize for the best political non-fiction, The Bread and Roses Award for Radical Publishing. This year for the first time the Bread and Roses award will be complemented by a new prize, The Little Rebels Award, to be given for the best piece of fiction for readers aged 0-12 years.

The 2013 Cultural Bridges Conference in the UK: "State Multiculturalism: An Interdisciplinary Analysis of Political, Economic & Cultural Dimensions" Based primarily in the House of Lords in London the conference, will be hosted at a number of important political, historic, and cultural locations across the city.

This Festival puts the music into protest, making it creative, joyful and engaging. Through song, the aim is to promote a world free of oppression, exploitation, exclusion and violence. This year's host choir is Côr Gobaith. The collective musical repertoire includes world music, folk, pop, rap, soul, gospel... you name it. The issues Festival choirs focus on transcend traditional politics, with women’s choirs, LGBTQ choirs, choirs of women asylum seekers, choirs singing for human rights. Radical Wales' folk singer Tracey Curtis tops the bill at Friday night's welcome gig.
