In 1916 the Military Service Act first introduced conscription to Britain. Throughout the First World War, about 16,000 men conscientiously objected to military service, many with religious motives, including the Quakers.

The Week of Prayer for World Peace always precedes One World Week, which is the week in which 24th October, UN Day, falls.
Fellowship of Reconciliation Annual conference
This year, for the first time, we’re combining our Young Peacemakers Network weekend away with our annual council, so that members can all get together. It will be in the Midlands, so that it’s easy for as many people as possible to get to.
Workshops include Liberation Theology & Peace, Peace & Ecology and Anti-militarism in the Old Testament and lots more.

We’re focusing on a few core commodities – cocoa, sugar, and tea – in new materials, case studies and a brand new 15 minute film that will be available for Fairtrade Fortnight.
Whether you’re an individual or part of a Fairtrade group, there will be opportunities to take action – including asking businesses directly to switch to Fairtrade in a stock it challenge.
