Rob Evans, from the Guardian, will talk about his book Undercover, which exposed the long history of police involvement in protest groups. In particular he described the history of the Special Demonstration Squad which sent in long-term infiltrators to left-wing political groups. This group stayed undercover for years, with most members having sexual relations with “subversives”, in some cases fathering children with their targets. Nottingham was a particular focal point for their activity, with Mark Kennedy/Mark Stone eventually taking a leading role in environmental and animal rights groups before being exposed as a police spy. Because of limited space, advance ticket purchase suggested.
