The organisation "Workaid" is committed to tackling poverty in a practical way by helping disadvantaged people overseas and in the UK, to help themselves through practical skills training. Unwanted tools and equipment are collected from all over the UK and refurbished by a team of dedicated volunteers at the Workaid workshop. The refurbished tools are then sent to vocational training projects where they help vulnerable and disadvantaged people to learn trade skills and start their oen businesses. Each year Workaid helps over 9,000 people to break the cycle of poverty and rebuild their lives. There are currently successful projects running in the UK, Kenya, Uganda, Zambia and Tanzania.
A donation is invited for hot drinks and biscuits (and maybe a mince-pie) which will be available, and you are welcome to bring a packed lunch any time from 12.15pm. The talk starts at 1pm and will be followed by questions and discussion until 1.50pm. Admission is free.
