Security for People - the real alternative to crisis and war
by Professor Richard Jolly
Honorary Professor and Research Associate
Institute of Development Studies
University of Sussex

Professor Sir Richard Jolly will explore the new thinking required for recovering from crisis and the national and global challenges it presents. From 1982 to 1996 Sir Richard was an Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations, serving as Deputy Executive Director responsible for UNICEF’s programmes worldwide. He was then, until 2000, senior adviser to the Administrator of UNDP and coordinator of the widely-acclaimed Human Development Report. Since leaving the UN he has worked on a multi-volume intellectual history of the UN’s contributions to ideas and policy in the economic and social arena. The final volume of this was published as “UN Ideas That Changed the World”.
