Armed Forces Day is about fuelling support for war and everyday militarism. It has little or nothing to do with providing help for veterans, who need a decent welfare state, not a celebration of militarism.
It remains unclear how many Armed Forces Day events will be cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Armed Forces Day National Event, planned this year for Scarborough, has now been cancelled. However, the government is still calling for people to celebrate Armed Forces Day from their homes, with online messages. The Peace Pledge Union will be challenging this with alternative messages.
