What Next After The Failed NPT Review Conference?

Town/City:
LONDON.

London Region CND Public Meeting.

Speaker: Paul Ingram, Executive Director of British-American Security Information Council (BASIC). He has had extensive media experience, has written widely on nuclear matters and was Green Party representative on the Stop the War Coalition.

The 2015 NPT (nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty) Conference, held in New York, ended on 22nd May without a Final Document being agreed. This was because the US, supported by the UK and Canada, would not agree to proposals insisted on by Egypt and some other Arab countries to set a deadline of March 2016 to convene a conference on a nuclear weapons-free zone in the Middle East, that such a conference be convened with or without Israel’s participation and that there should be no prior conditions – and decisions at NPT Conferences have to be by consensus. There will be time for questions and discussion after Paul’s talk.

(This public meeting is followed by a London Region CND Council meeting from 8.30-9pm at the same venue, which people going to the public meeting can stay on for if they wish.)
