Gandhi and the International Arms Trade

The Gandhi Foundation AGM will take place at Kingsley Hall, Powis Road, Bromley-by-Bow, London E3 3HJ at 2.00 p.m. on Saturday 2nd September. It will be followed by a presentation by Gandhi Foundation committee member, Graham Davey, with the above title.

A few days after the AGM, the biennial Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) exhibition at the ExCel Centre in London's dockland will have some 1500 exhibitors displaying every conceivable kind of weaponry from hand-guns to warships. At the last DSEI exhibition in 2015, buyers came from 61 countries some of which were at war while others were identified by the British government as being guilty of human rights abuse.

The illustrated talk will set Gandhi's principles against the policies of successive British governments in promoting arms sales. There will also be consideration of alternatives to military production that would maintain current employment levels and technological expertise.
