With Michèle Barrett. The official British war graves policy was equality. In practice, outside Europe there was discrimination against non-white combatants and labourers, many of whom were simply not commemorated. Michèle gives examples from the Indian Army and from the campaigns in Africa, and raises the issue: whose war graves commission was it?
