Photographs of daily life: Herat 2004 – 2007 by Farahnaz Karimy
Opening event: 7p.m. Thursday 10 May with speakers and Afghan refreshments.
Woman photojournalist Farahnaz worked in Herat until 2007 when she was
forced to flee the country with only the youngest of her four children. After a year’s arduous journey she arrived in Britain in July 2008 and asked for asylum. She was living in Bradford and Wakefield, awaiting the Home Office decision, until early October 2009 when she was suddenly taken into detention with her 9 year old son and deported to Hungary. The exhibition was first shown in Bradford Cathedral in November 2009 and subsequently in Shrewsbury, Bath, Leeds and Giggleswick.
