A meeting for all groups in the peace movement to discuss their plans for the centenary of the first world war.
The government is planning on spending £50m of taxpayer’s money on commemorating the first world war, and will be investing £5m in the Imperial War Museum redevelopments – will there be any money set aside for the Peace Museum? It’s likely the occasion will be used to present past and present wars in a good light and to shore up support for future wars, instead of the centenary being used as a time to reflect on the disaster of WW1 and how we should be working towards preventing all wars by developing negotiation, reconciliation and diplomacy skills.
If you are planning alternatives to the government’s £50m spending on militarism then please come along and share. If you are looking for ideas for your organisation to present an alternative, come along and get those ideas.
All welcome.
