Women as Peacemakers: Celebration of the centenary of the Women’s Peace Congress at The Hague.

As the guns of World War I rang out across Europe, over 1200 women gathered in the Netherlands in April 1915 to coordinate their efforts to bring an end to the conflict.
Their peace congress was a remarkable attempt to transcend national borders as part of the campaign for a permanent peace, marking the emergence of a women’s peace movement that saw peace and women’s rights as two closely intertwined goals.
A century on, join us to remember the Hague Congress as we reflect on the history of the women’s peace movement.
