NG1 2DH. With Onyeka. It is now reasonably well known that there were significant numbers of Black people in Tudor England. This illustrated talk indicates that, contrary to expectations, Africans were present throughout England, sometimes holding important occupations. While some were born as slaves, others were not and some were born in England, sometimes being employed by powerful people because of their skills. Onyeka has examined all the evidence of the Black presence in Tudor time to reveal more of their status and origins.
