NOTTINGHAM. St. Patrick’s Day as we know it today is largely a creation of the Irish diaspora. It’s an interesting means of studying the similarities and differences between Irishness abroad and Irish national identity in Ireland. Marc Scully of Leicester University will explore the history of St. Patrick’s Day parades in English cities, and the extent to which Irish people in England see contemporary parades as representing their own identities.
