With Joe Glenton. After serving a tour in Afghanistan Joe was the first British soldier to refuse to return to Afghanistan on legal and moral grounds. Threatened with years in prison, he challenged and beat a charge of desertion, which was withdrawn before his trial to avoid a public examination of the War of Terror. Joe is a journalist and author with a focus on defence, security and war. He has written for several leading newspapers and is a regular commentator on TV and radio. He wrote, narrated and presented a four part series, The Soldier Myth and he is also the author of Soldier Box published in 2013 by Verso. Joe will talk about the history of soldier worship and the political use of the "hero soldier" myth; the subject of his current research for a new book.
