Iran’s International Relationships – what prospects for the future?

The nature of Iran’s international policy is of profound importance to the rest of the world and the election of President Rhouani in June 2013 has currently improved the country’s problematic relationship with the West. Tehran’s interim agreement suspend enriching uranium beyond levels needed for use in power stations in return for a lifting of sanctions, has temporarily quieted US sabre-rattling but has been greeted with alarm in Israel and Saudi Arabia. Talks designed to consolidate this deal continue, and future progress remains uncertain. Dr. Arshin Adib-Moghaddam will discuss the situation with us. He is Reader in Comparative Politics and International Relations and Chair of the Centre for Iranian Studies at SOAS. He has published several books on Iran, Islam and world politics including A Metahistory of the Clash of Civilisations: Us and Them beyond Orientalism and On the Arab Revolts and the Iranian Revolution: Power and Resistance Today.
